Edward Prior Full Hunter Pocket Watch  - Made in London - circa 1845

This elegant gold-filled full hunter pocket watch was made by Edward Prior in London, circa 1845.

DIAL: The white enamel dial has black Turkish numerals and painted arrowhead hour markers suggesting that it was made specifically for the Turkish market.  The dial has breguet hands and a subsidiary seconds dial at the six. The dial is signed in the upper centre “EDWARD PRIOR LONDON”. 

MOVEMENT: The keywind fusee lever movement has a pierced foliate balance cock and a rose-cut diamond set balance wheel. The round pillars around the outer edge of the watch indicate excellent craftmanship. The movement is signed London Edw Prior” and numbered 67724. The movement is in great working condition. However, we cannot guarantee accuracy for an antique pocket watch.

CASE: The watch lies in a smooth full hunter case with a monogram free cartouche.

Edward Prior was a London watchmaker of high repute specialising in watches for the Turkish and the Ottoman Empire. He worked between 1800 and 1868.·  He received two awards from the Society of Arts. There are currently watches by Edward Prior at the Science Museum in South Kensington.
