Omega History: Omega, the watchmaking company, was founded by Louis Brandt in 1848 in Le Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. In 1880, it relocated to its current site in Bienne, Switzerland. Initially, the firm did not go by the name Omega; it was named after the launch of a watch model called the “Omega” in 1894. Today, it stands as one of the world’s most renowned watch companies, having served as the official timekeeper for the Olympic Games since 1932. Additionally, they have provided their “moon watch” to American and Russian astronauts since 1965 and 1975, respectively. The company has been part of the Swatch Group since 1983.
